Cambridge City Raynet Group, as it was originally named, was formed during the mid seventies, and has remained active in support of it's User Services until the present day.
The present group consists of some score of members, and though many live within the environs of Cambridge city, there are also others who live in urban areas in the east and north of the county.
The most prestigious of the group's regular commitments have been at the Imperial War Museum at Duxford, a famous wartime RAF and USAF airfield, where the four or more annual flying weekend gatherings attract crowds of up to twenty thousand spectators.
Raynet's rôle at these shows has been to provide a radio network to link the usual statutary emergency services into an overall response team which would be responsible for co-ordinating effective safety measures and public protection in the face of a major flying disaster.
